Why cities are the most popular theme
There is a reason cities dominate the catalogs of puzzles for adults: everyone has a city they love, one they have visited or one they dream of going to. Building a puzzle of Paris or Santorini means spending ten hours looking at familiar rooftops, windows and canals, and ending up with a picture for your wall that tells a story. We have gathered all of ours in the new City and Travel Puzzles collection.
Photography or illustration
This is the first choice to make. Photographs, like Burano, Italy or panoramas of New York at night, have well-defined areas of color (a yellow facade, a blue sky, dark water) and come together methodically; they are more realistic and look great framed in a living room. Illustrations, like Dreamy Santorini, Amsterdam Boat Trip or New York by Car Pintos, are more cheerful, with bold outlines and flat colors, which makes them easier to build as a family and better suited to a bedroom or a home office.
Our picks by destination
London
London in Bloom (Educa, 1000 pieces) sets hot air balloons over Big Ben on a golden evening. For a panoramic format, try Clementoni's London Panorama.
Paris
Lovers in Paris (Educa, 1500 pieces) is the romantic choice: a couple on a balcony with the Eiffel Tower in the background. For a more classic view, Clementoni's Paris at Dusk.
Greece and Italy
Dreamy Santorini (1000 pieces), with its blue domes and bougainvillea, and Burano (3000 pieces), with the colorful houses of the Venetian lagoon, for anyone with the table space and the time.
Amsterdam and New York
Amsterdam Boat Trip cruises the canals between narrow facades; New York by Car Pintos is a Manhattan street in a graphic style, with the yellow cab and the fire escapes.
How many pieces
1000-piece puzzles can be finished in a weekend and are the right format for most people. 1500 pieces will keep you busy for a week of evenings. 2000 and 3000 pieces are vacation projects and need a dedicated table or a puzzle mat to store your progress.
Once it's done
A city puzzle is one of the most worthwhile to frame, especially if it shows the city of a special trip. Educa puzzles include FIX PUZZLE glue; apply two thin coats, let it dry for 24 hours and choose a frame without glass to avoid reflections on the image.
Which one is easiest to start with?
Dreamy Santorini or London in Bloom: illustrations with clear areas of color and 1000 pieces.
And the hardest?
Burano, because of its 3000 pieces, and nighttime city photographs, because of their dark, uniform skies.
Do they make good gifts?
They are among the safest gifts there are: all you need to know is which city the person loves. Also check out our Christmas gifts 2026 suggestions.
